Tierra Summer Strings
We are excited to announce Tierra Suzuki Strings as our summer music program. Tierra Learning Center is set on 320 acres in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, just outside the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. Tierra is a community-based organization fostering stewardship, inclusiveness & positive growth. Nestled in the pines, our camp has access to the main lodge, amphitheater, yurt, play fields, fire pit and hiking trails. On-campus cabins sleep up to four and are available for rental during our camp dates. Please click on the link below to peruse the Tierra website.
We are happy to announce the return of Tierra Summer Strings in Leavenworth for 2023!
This is a family music camp which will take place June 26-29, 2023 (Mon-Thur)
Please read all camp info and scroll to the bottom for the registration form
(for 2023 there will be no "Tierra in the City" in Issaquah)
Our summer program at Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth is a 4-day, 3-night family experience of music-making, socializing and relaxation near the beautiful town of Leavenworth. The center is a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Leavenworth. Most classes and evening activities are held in the main lodge, where we also eat our meals. There is a giant porch surrounding, where you’ll find families love to congregate!
We sometimes use the outdoor amphitheater for rehearsals and performances, with a background of tall pines. Afternoons you’ll find kids on the sport courts or playing in the sprinklers on the large playing fields. There is a lavender maze, a treehouse and several hiking trails to explore with your family during free time. A favorite evening activity is the talent show followed by S’mores around the fire pit. We will conclude the 2023 camp with a public outdoor concert in Leavenworth.
Most families choose to stay in one of the on-site cabin suites which this year will be booked through Issaquah Suzuki Strings and paid to Tierra Learning Center (note that lodging and meals are NOT included with your child’s tuition.) The cabin suites sleep up to 4, with one bedroom with a double bed and a living area with a pull-out sofa. There is a also a mini-fridge and microwave in each suite. Meal plans for students and family members are available through Issaquah Suzuki Strings when you register your student and are paid separately from tuition. All meals will be provided by a local caterer and are healthy, family-friendly, and provide options for special diets if requested ahead of time.
For the best camp experience we reccomend booking with us at one of the Tierra cabin suites. However, some families choose to stay off-site in hotels or other rental housing in the Leavenworth area. This is a great option if you have other siblings or parents who want to explore the many recreational activities the area has to offer!
Student tuition: $375
Meal plan per person ages 5+ (9 meals from Monday dinner-Thursday lunch): $110
Teen lodge fee for three nights total: $90
On-site family Cabin Suites @ special rate of $ 137.88/night (sleeps up to 4): $413.64 (includes tax)
**Families must book their own lodging: If you want to stay at Tierra (highly reccomended) the total of $413.64 must be paid on or before the first day of camp by check to Tierra Learning Center. Issaquah Suzuki Strings will collect your lodging checks before camp or at camp registration on the first day. PLEASE INDICATE ON THE REGISTRATION FORM IF YOU WANT A CABIN SUITE- DO NOT BOOK DIRECTLY WITH TIERRA.
We also offer an option for teens who wish to come without their parent (transportation to and from Leavenworth provided by parent.) A limited number of bunks are available in the main lodge and will be supervised by a young adult helper. This option requires permission from your teacher and payment of the teen lodge fee and meal plan.
It's best to register early as each student’s schedule is carefully crafted to playing level and age. While each student's schedule will look different, below is a sample of what you might expect a day at Tierra looks like. Students will also have one “free” hour during the teaching day to rest or practice. Afternoon “free time” is for everyone and might include group sports, water play, hiking or a quiet rest!
9:00 Large group lesson
10:00 Chamber Music, Small Group or “Soundbridge”(music and movement)
11:00 Master Class (mini-private lesson)
