Tierra Summer Strings
We are excited to announce Tierra Suzuki Strings as our summer music program. Tierra Learning Center is set on 320 acres in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, just outside the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. Tierra is a community-based organization fostering stewardship, inclusiveness & positive growth. Nestled in the pines, our camp has access to the main lodge, amphitheater, yurt, play fields, fire pit and hiking trails. On-campus cabins sleep up to four and are available for rental during our camp dates. Please click on the link below to peruse the Tierra website.
We are sad to announce that Tierra Summer Strings for 2021 has been cancelled.
(students who have already registered will receive a full refund)
Please plan to join us this August 2-5, 2021 for "Tierra in the City!", a day camp experience at Hammond Ashley in Issaquah.
Our summer program at Tierra Learning Center in Leavenworth is a 4 day, 3 night family experience of music-making, socializing and relaxation near the beautiful town of Leavenworth. The center is a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Leavenworth. Most classes and evening activities are held in the main lodge, where we also eat our meals. There is a giant porch surrounding, where you’ll find families love to congregate!
We sometimes use the outdoor amphitheater for rehearsals and performances, with a background of tall pines. Afternoons you’ll find kids on the sport courts or playing in the sprinklers on the large playing fields. There is a lavender maze, a treehouse and several hiking trails to explore with your family during free time. A favorite evening activity is the talent show followed by S’mores around the fire pit.
Most families choose to stay in one of the on-site cabins which can be booked directly through Tierra Learning Center (note that lodging is NOT included with your child’s tuition.) The cabins sleep up to 4, with one bedroom and pull-out sofa bed in the living area. A small kitchenette with mini-fridge and microwave is in each cabin. Meal plans for family members are available through Issaquah Suzuki Strings when you register your student. (Keep in mind each registered student has their meal plan included and does not need to register separately for a meal plan!) Lunches, snacks and dinners are catered by Spreading Roots catering and are healthy, family-friendly, and provide options for special diets if requested ahead of time. Breakfasts are simple, continental style and served by Issaquah Suzuki Strings staff.
Some families choose to stay off site in hotels or other rental housing in the Leavenworth. This is a great option if you have other siblings or parents who want to explore the many recreational activities the area has to offer!
Student tuition for 2020 is $335 per student and includes meals for that student. Family members may purchase a meal plan for $115(13 and up,) $75 (6-12) and $25 (5 and under.)
New this year: Tiny Tierra! A special program of music and movement classes for younger siblings ages 2-5 who have not yet started on an instrument. Parents must attend the classes with their child. Tuition is $75. (includes meals)
**Families must book their own lodging through Tierra Learning Center or find nearby lodging.
We do offer an option for teens who wish to come without their parent. A limited number of bunks are available in the main lodge and will be supervised by a young adult helper. This option requires permission from your teacher and the $80 fee.
While each student’s schedule is carefully crafted to playing level and age, here is a sample of what you might expect a day at Tierra looks like. Students will also have one “free” hour during the teaching day to rest or practice. Afternoon “free time” is for everyone and might include group sports, water play, hiking or a quiet rest!
